Mlekomat or Fresh milk Vending Machines

Fresh milk vending machines, or “mlekomat,” are a popular and eco-friendly way to buy farm-fresh milk in Slovenia, including in Ljubljana. These machines allow you to purchase unprocessed, high-quality raw milk directly from local farms, ensuring freshness and supporting local agriculture.

How It Works:

  • Locate a Mlekomat: These vending machines are often found in busy areas, markets, or near supermarkets in Ljubljana.

  • Bring Your Own Bottle: To reduce waste, bring a reusable bottle. If you don’t have one, some machines also offer bottles for purchase.

  • Select the Quantity: Insert coins or pay using a card, depending on the machine, and choose the amount of milk you want (typically in liters). Or bring a small cup.

  • Dispense Milk: Place your bottle under the nozzle, and the machine will fill it with fresh milk.

  • Enjoy Fresh Milk: The milk is typically unpasteurized, so it’s recommended to consume it soon or boil it before drinking.
